The Housing Department has earned a reputation in Bushwick for its leadership role in community development and neighborhood improvement. Beginning in the early 1980s, RiseBoro's housing program has been responsible for the preservation, rehabilitation and development of over 3,000 units of low-income, affordable housing through a variety of approaches, including:
Developing and rehabilitating city-owned property
Converting underutilized sites into affordable housing
Providing property management services for 1,800 units of affordable family and senior housing in north Brooklyn, as well as over 100,000 square feet of community and retail space
Innovation of high efficiency sustainable building methods, including Passive House technology
Providing compassionate social services to increase housing stability of community residents
