Services

RiseBoro's SONYC middle school aged youth participate in a variety of positive alternatives activities which will enhance the quality of their after school and summer camp experiences.

Our goal is to create a perfect harmony between making this summer fun, educational and most importantly unforgettable. As youth get older there are certain gaps created when it comes to learning and excitement. Our aim is to have youth experience fun but also be able to think critically and reflect on what they have learned.

Educational Enrichment...

Workshops focus on STEM, Literacy, Community Leadership, Gym and Healthy Living educational curricula which enhance the academic experiences of SONYC after-school youth. The summer curricula focuses on preventing the summer learning slide and helps youth to learn new skills while keeping their minds engaged. The healthy living aspect focuses on informing youth about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and violence as well as showing healthy alternatives and promoting active lifestyles.

Empowerment...

Community Service Projects consist of interacting with seniors through intergenerational activities within their community. Youth cultivate civic engagement, experience enhanced community connection and they learn to be grateful and thoughtful of others.

Excitement...

Energetic Positive Alternative Trips are for the participant to exert energy and enjoy themselves this summer, while at the same time learning basic physics (STEM) concepts behind them (Fridays).

Engagement...

Team-building and recreational activities help create a lasting bond within the group and support healthy youth activity through semi-structured sporting activities.

Expression...

Themed days, such as Cultural Day, give students an opportunity build pro-social skills, celebrate their cultural heritages and engage in recreational time at the Youth Center.

Exploration...

Educational/cultural trips help fuel the participants' minds and keep their brains actively processing new information that they might not otherwise encounter in school.

During the summer, the program operates Monday – Friday 9am-5pm and during the school year, the after-school program operates Monday – Friday, 3pm-6pm.

Services

The COMPASS Program provides homework help and enrichment activities for local elementary school students. Throughout the week, children participate in activities that develop their minds (Homework Help, Literacy Club, and STEM Club), their bodies (Physical Fitness, Get Moving, and Health & Nutrition workshops), their creativity (Visual Arts, Arts & Crafts, and Dance), and social skills (Character Education and Life Skills Training). Our goal is to help the young people we serve become happy, healthy, and successful adolescents and adults.

Summer Camp

The COMPASS Program also operates a theme-based day camp during the summer months for the elementary school students in our community. Campers receive the same services provided in our after-school program, but in the form of project-based learning focused on a high interest and engaging theme.

Adult Education

Adult HSE and ESL classes are available for the parents and families of our after-school program participants through our partnerships with the Youth Center's Adult Education programs.
